Q. In investigating the Teachings of MasterPath, I have read that all life evolves through two primary currents, those being light and Sound. Could you explain the difference between light and Sound and how it applies to my unfoldment?
A. The written and recorded works of Sri Gary Olsen, the current living Master of MasterPath, explain in great and loving detail the differences between the currents of light and Sound, as well as how these two great currents are reflected in all life. The light is well-known to all people, though perhaps not by this name, and not understood for its purpose and reach. When the Masters of the Light and Sound refer to the “light,” they mean all the energies that revolve around and involve the physical, emotional, and mental faculties. This means that in all that we think, feel, and do – all thoughts, emotions, and actions – we are expressing the current of light. Light is knowledge, information, theory, and mental insight; it is the attachment between lovers that is taken for love; it is the desire for sexual union and its culmination. Its primary feature is duality, meaning that there is an equal and opposite essence to all within the realms of light, and this plays out in every aspect of our lives. For every thought or feeling of a “positive” nature, such as harmony, acceptance, compassion, appreciation, or respect, there is always a countering experience of the “negative.” For example, harmony between mates in the world is not universal and eternal; there are always periods where harmony is lacking, and the relationship moves between these two polarities. Harmony may manifest for a time, but it is always followed by a period of disharmony. How often is an episode of achieving respect and prestige on the job followed by an incident of failure and censure? These polarities may play out over minutes or over lifetimes, but the swing is inevitable. The movement is as predictable and mechanical as a pendulum, and the great purpose of the light is to teach and train the unfolding individual that the eternal fulfillment and divine serenity that all come to seek is not available within its borders. Though the light can never deliver the spiritual goal, it does reveal it, and this is its greatest gift. As the Masters say, we must go through the light to reach the Sound.
The light, however, is not a force all its own – it is simply a lesser reflection of the great spiritual current of the Sound. The Sound Current is the pure essence of the Divine Spirit, and its primary quality is Oneness, the great unitary and unifying essence that includes and sustains all life. It has been called many names in many cultures throughout history, such as the Audible Life Stream, the Shabda (India), the Logos (ancient Greece), the Word (the Bible), the Naad (the Vedas), the Sraosha (by Zoroaster), and the Music of the Spheres (by Pythagoras). It must be defined in terms of metaphor and by Its qualities, because there are no words to truly capture its essence, as the mind cannot grasp anything that originates above and beyond itself. The Sound is the animating and creative force of all life; the Sound lies at the spiritual heart of all beings, and the Sound Current is the love of the Creator. It lies dormant within all individuals, and due to this unawakened state, its eternal qualities of uninterrupted spiritual bliss, deep and lasting divine serenity, and constant loving inspiration are not the everyday experience of human beings. The Sound Current is the divine wave of God’s love that must be awakened through the initiation by a living Master of the Light and Sound.
Once the Sound within is awakened, the entire life of the initiate changes. With access to the Sound Current within, the initiate is no longer restricted to just the mechanical expressions of the duality of light. For example, when this divine love enters the formula, the emotional attachment between mates, which results in the back and forth between happy and sad, begins to ease, the swings become less drastic, a gentle and true appreciation for the other can emerge, and each partner can look within oneself for the true and lasting happiness that can only be attained by a life lived in harmony with the Sound Current.
The Sound will bring the initiate into the realization of one’s true self, which is soul, and into the union of soul with the Creator, which is the entire purpose of all creation.
